AMU Class IX
AMU school admission test for Class IX — 85 written + 15 interview, NCERT Class VIII
📌 Overview
Class IX is the other written school door. Same merit formula as Class VI: written 85 + interview 15. Public 2026 timetable: written test 5 April 2026, 10:00 a.m., interview the next morning at S.T.S. School in the FN supplement.
📋 Eligibility
- Passed Class VIII from a recognised school.
- Age band in the Schools Guide (commonly 13–15 years on 31 March 2026 — use the printed birth-date window).
📝 Paper shape
The Guide uses the same two-section idea as Class VI:
- Section I (25): English + Urdu + Hindi. 40% in this section is compulsory.
- Section II (60): Mathematics and Science / Social Science as printed in that year’s Test Paper Details. Class VIII Maths, Science and SST are the safe revision set.
📊 High-weight Class VIII topics
- Maths: rationals, linear equations in one variable, squares & cubes, algebra identities, percentage–profit, simple & compound interest intro, quadrilaterals, mensuration, data handling, introduction to graphs.
- Science: crop production, microbes, coal & petroleum, combustion, conservation, reproduction, reaching the age of adolescence, force & pressure, friction, sound, chemical effects of current, light, solar system (as in NCERT VIII).
- SST: how, when and where; tribals, civilising the native; women, caste and reform; the making of the national movement; resources, agriculture, industries; Constitution, judiciary, public facilities.
- English: unseen passage, tenses, voice, narration, modals, clauses, writing a short letter / notice at Class VIII level.

- NCERT Class VIII Maths, Science, History, Geography, Civics/Social & Political Life, English Honeydew + It So Happened, Hindi Vasant / Durva
- Urdu Class VIII reader — needed for Section I
📝 Class IX weekly drill
- Mon: Maths — one algebra worksheet + one mensuration worksheet
- Tue: Science — two NCERT chapters, all in-text questions
- Wed: SST — one History + one Civics chapter, 15 MCQs
- Thu: English grammar paper (error spotting, tense, voice)
- Fri: Languages other than English (Hindi / Urdu) + 1 full EVS/Science mock section
- Sat: one full 85-mark timed paper if you have a past AMU/JMI sheet
📊 Weightage & paper habits
AMU and JMI do not publish a legal chapter-wise marks table for every school/UG paper. Use official Test Paper Details + last years’ memory papers. The lists below are study-order lists, not a promise of marks.
- School papers: the class below the target class is the whole syllabus. Extra “Olympiad” books rarely help and often confuse.
- Language sections can be qualifying (AMU Class VI/IX need 40% in Section I). A high Maths score cannot save a failed language section.
- University objective papers: NCERT 10+2 first, then official PYQs. Coaching modules are optional.
- CUET / JEE / NEET / NATA / NCET routes: that national paper is the exam. The university form is only the second registration.

📅 An 8-week plan that fits school and UG papers
- Weeks 1–2: Finish NCERT theory of the listed class / stream. One subject a sitting. Notes = one page per chapter.
- Weeks 3–4: Chapter-end NCERT questions + any official sample. Start an error notebook.
- Weeks 5–6: Full syllabus revision + two timed papers a week on OMR / CBT style.
- Weeks 7–8: Only weak chapters + previous papers. Sleep and reach the centre with the admit card printout.
School-age students: 60–90 minutes a day is enough if it is every day. Do not copy a 10-hour JEE timetable for Class VI.
📖 Books & free PDFs
- Always first: official Guide / Prospectus PDF + Test Paper / Entrance Syllabus PDF
- NCERT textbooks of the exact class
- ePathshala · DIKSHA
- School English / Hindi: the same Marigold, Rimjhim, Honeydew books — not “entrance guides” sold on the footpath
- UG PCM: NCERT 11–12 + official JEE Main / CUET domain papers if that is the real test
- Law aptitude: official CLAT samples only as extra reading; the university syllabus PDF is primary
- Mass communication: one national newspaper every day + the JMI syllabus PDF
▶️ YouTube / teachers (free; one per subject)
- Class 5–10: Khan Academy India, ExamFear / LearnoHub, NCERT official explainer playlists
- PCM for B.Tech / Class XI Science: Physics Wallah (Alakh Pandey), Physics Galaxy, Mohit Tyagi — only the NCERT / JEE Main layer
- CUET GAT / English: CUET Adda / PW CUET playlists + NTA official mocks
- Polity / GA: StudyIQ or Drishti short lectures, then verify from NCERT / PIB
- Stop after one teacher per subject. Ten live classes a day is not a plan.
📝 Application & exam-day checklist
- Name and date of birth on the form = previous marksheet / birth certificate exactly
- Admit card from the official portal only (AMU Controller or admission.jmi.ac.in)
- Photo, signature, and qualifying marksheet scanned as the brochure sizes
- Reach the printed centre 60 minutes early; OMR needs a black ball pen as notified
- After AMU/JMI lists: counselling portal, document upload, fee — seats lapse if you miss the window
❓ Frequently asked
- Is there negative marking? School papers often have none; University papers vary. Read that year’s Test Paper Details.
- Can I enter Class VII or VIII from outside? AMU Schools Guide 2026–27 says outside entry is Class I, VI, IX only. JMI school prospectus lists Nursery, Prep, I, VI, IX, XI.
- Does CUET replace the university form? No. CUET score + university form together.
- Does JEE Main fill AMU B.Tech? Default AMU B.Tech is AMU’s own PCM paper. JMI B.Tech is JEE Main.
- Interview? AMU Class VI/IX yes (15 marks, min 40%). Many JMI school papers are written-merit only. UG interviews appear where the prospectus row says so (often mass comm / some diplomas).
⚠️ Common mistakes
- Preparing Class VI from Class VI books (the test is Class V)
- Skipping Urdu / Hindi and failing a qualifying language section
- Paying a shop that claims a “fixed AMU / Jamia seat”
- Missing the university’s own form after CUET / JEE / NEET / NATA
- Using last year’s age window without opening this year’s PDF
📚 What to study
- Download the live Guide to Admissions (University or Schools) from amucontrollerexams.com — that PDF is the law for this cycle.
- Use NCERT of the class just below the one you want (Class V books for Class VI test, Class VIII for Class IX, Class X for Class XI).
- Solve official AMU previous papers / sample OMR sheets when the Controller uploads them.
- Languages matter: many school papers need 40% in the language section just to stay eligible.
